Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been awarded the 2019 World Tourism Forum Institute’s (WTFI) honorary “Leader in Tourism” award for his commendable contribution to tourism growth.

WTFI Chairman, Bulut Bagci, delivered the honorary certificate to Abiy Ahmed at the Prime Minister’s Office in Addis Ababa on Monday.

The president also confirmed that Ethiopia is therefore chosen to host the upcoming annual meeting of the Global Tourism Forum.

On the basis of Ethiopia ‘s achievements in the tourism field, the chairman announced that Ethiopia will be the venue of the Annual Meeting of the Global Tourism Forum 2021.

Bulut Bagci said that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was chosen for the award in conjunction with his commitment to the growth of sustainable tourism in Ethiopia and his vision for tourism promotion.

He remembered the Prime Minister ‘s attempts to rebuild and renovate Menelik II Palace, to make it open to public leisure as well as the Addis Ababa forest embellishment programme.

The President vowed also to help the Beautifying Sheger Scheme, which Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recreated.

The next GTF will be conducted in Addis Ababato welcome worldwide developers and esteemed professionals of the industry to further grow their tourism potentials.

The third GTF meeting will be held in an African region, after Accra in Ghana and Luanda, Angola ‘s capital.

Established in 2010, the World Tourism Forum Institute’s event brand Global Tourism Forum is targeted at expanding the foreign tourism, integrating local and global tourism developments and business growth strategies.
